HELENA, Mont. – The City of Helena / Lewis and Clark County Heritage Tourism Council (HTC) has extended the deadline for response on the “35 Actions for 35 Historic Places” online public survey to identify the 35 historic places the city and county can’t afford to lose. A link to the survey can be found atwww.lccountymt.gov/historic-preservation. The current survey is now open through August and will inform the City of Helena's long range planning process and Lewis and Clark County's Growth Policy update.
The “35 Actions for 35 Historic Places” survey is intended to determine how much City and County residents and business owners know about and value, local historic properties and their protection and/or preservation. The public is asked which historic places are important to them and why; these places may still exist or no longer be standing. Respondents will also be asked to help identify historic preservation priorities.
A second survey set for release in the fall will assess how well the public knows the City-County Historic/Heritage Preservation program (including the HTC), and what’s the level of the public’s interest in the program. Questions include the types of historic preservation activities that the responding public has participated in, and identifying options to help maintain or steward historic properties.
