Upcoming Trailhead Maintenance Closures

City of Helena Open Lands staff will temporarily close two trailheads next week to conduct routine grass trimming and maintenance activities.The Mt. Helena Trailhead will be closed on Tuesday, June 23, from 7 a.m. to noon. The Beattie Street Trailhead will be closed on Wednesday, June 24, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

City of Helena to Host ‘Sharing the Spirit of America’ 250th Birthday

The event will kick off at 3:30 p.m. at the Flag Plaza, featuring live music and food trucks, followed by a coordinated nationwide community reading of the Declaration of Independence at 4 p.m.

Upcoming Maintenance and Holiday Closures

The City of Helena Transfer Station will be closed on Thursday, June 18 for facility maintenance and Friday, June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Residential and commercial garbage collection will be collected both days as normal during the Transfer Station closure. Other June 19 closures include City of Helena admin. offices, Civic Center offices, Municipal Court & Capital Transit.

Street and Trail Projects

Colonial Ave. Northbound Lane Asphalt Work – June 16-18

The City Streets team will continue asphalt work on the northbound lane of Colonial Dr. from Mendocino St. to the Helena Point Apts. entrance June 16-18 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Northwest Passage–Ambrose Connector Trail Construction

Construction will also begin on a new connector trail linking the Northwest Passage Trail and the Ambrose Trail in Mount Helena Natural Park. No impacts to users are anticipated during construction.

Oakes Street Park Trail Reroute

City Open Lands are working on construction of a reroute of the Oakes Street Park Trail. The existing trail will remain open until the new trail is complete, then the old trail will be decommissioned.

Community Listening Sessions

Community Listening Sessions are held monthly and centered on one featured topic of high relevance or community impact. Each session will begin with a concise 10–15 minute presentation from staff providing background information, current status updates, and future outlook. Following the presentation, attendees have the opportunity to ask questions, share perspectives, and provide input.

Engineering and Design Standards Update

The City is accepting comment on draft updates to the Engineering and Design Standards.

Zoning Regulations Update

The Zoning Regulations Update process provides an opportunity for residents and businesses to communicate the issues they’ve experienced utilizing the current regulations and share their thoughts on how it can be improved.
