HELENA, Mont. – Notice is hereby given; the City of Helena is accepting applications for the City Commission Vacancy. All Helena residents are encouraged to apply. The following criteria is required for application, according to the City Charter, Article II section 2.01 “Members of the commission shall be residents of the City of Helena and qualified electors.”

The Commission will also review applications for the following criteria to determine top candidates for a first round of interviews (the number of candidates selected to interview is at the Commission discretion, based upon the volume and qualifications of the applicant pool):

• Applicants must reside within the City limits.

• Must be 18 years of age (Qualified Elector)

• Demonstrate a commitment to the City Charter

• The ability to meet the time commitments necessary to fulfill the duties of a Commissioner.

A final round of interviews will be held, where the Commission will be seeking further information from selected candidates regarding a demonstrated commitment to local issues in the spirit of the Preamble of the Helena City Charter.

• The application period begins upon this announcement.

• All applications are due to the Clerk of the Commission, no later than 4:00 PM on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

• Applications consist of a resume and cover letter.

The following is the tentative timeline for the application and interview process:

o Tuesday, Nov. 19 - Official Posting of Public Service Announcement (Application Period Opens)

o Wednesday, Dec. 10 - Applications Due; Deadline 4:00 PM (Application Period Closed)

o Friday, Dec. 12 - Commission Candidate Review and Top Selections due to Clerk; Deadline 1:00 PM

o Monday, Dec. 29 - First Round Interviews; Times TBD

o Friday, Jan. 2 - Second Round Interviews; Times TBD

o Monday, Jan. 5 - Final Selection/ Oath of Office; 6:00 PM

Applicants should be prepared for interviews to be scheduled on Dec. 29 and Jan. 2. Times will be determined following the interviewee selection process. The timeline and dates for the process presented are subject to change at the Commission’s discretion.

Those interested in applying should be advised that the appointment is to fill the vacancy until the next regular city election, at which time the remainder of the term shall be filled through the election procedure. For this vacancy, the appointed seat will serve January 5, 2026 until the next regular City election on November 2, 2027. The appointed Commissioner may choose to run for the same seat during that election.

All meetings and interviews will be conducted as a hybrid meeting in Conference Room 326 of the City-County Building and utilizing the Zoom Webinar platform. Please refer to the City’s website for additional meeting information.
