The following information highlights City infrastructure projects, which are primarily managed by the Public Works and Transportation departments. Below you will find highlighted major projects that have long-term, significant public impact.

Maintenance Projects

Orange Maintenance Projects Street Sign

The City of Helena is regularly conducting maintenance work that may impact the community for short timeframes. The City will place orange sidewalk signs near construction to notify the public when a new maintenance project will be starting. Information on this type of construction will be updated through the City's maintenance project map.

Street and Trail Project Notices

Silsbee Ave. Asphalt Maintenance - Sept. 15-16

The City Streets team will pave Silsbee Avenue from Green Meadow Dr. to Mitchell Ave. on Sept. 15-16. No through traffic is allowed.

State St. and Chaucer St. Intersection Closure - Sept. 9-12

The intersection of State St. and Chaucer St. will be closed Sept. 9-12 for asphalt repair

Cooney Dr. Lane Closure - Sept. 4

The City Streets team will close the southbound lane of Cooney Dr. from Russell Ln. to W. Custer Ave on Sept. 4 for lane striping.

Lane Closure on N. Park Ave. - Aug. 21

The City Streets team will close the northbound lane of Park Ave. from W. Lawrence St. to W. Placer Ave. on Aug. 21 for paving.

Colonial Ave. Asphalt Maintenance Project Continues - Aug. 19

The City Streets team will pave Colonial Avenue from Shodair Dr. to 2801 Colonial Ave. on Aug. 19. No through traffic is allowed.

Mt. Helena and Mt. Ascension Trail Closures Intermittent During Fuels

Mount Helena’s Ambrose Trail will open and Prairie Trail will temporarily close starting Thursday, August 14 as hand crews continue work thinning and pruning trees for a large fire fuels reduction project in the city’s natural parks. On August 21, the Beattie Street Trailhead, Pay Dirt and portions of Prickly Pear Trails will close for two days.

Major Projects (Active)

Wastewater Treatment Plant - Primary Scum Pump Rebuild

This proposed project will replace and existing failed pump station at the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Eureka Well Rehabilitation

This project will rehabilitate the well and pump station.

Test Well Drilling

This project will drill 9 test wells to determine geology and water capacity for potential public water supply wells.

Sewer Main Rehabilitation - 2019 Cured in Place Pipe

This project consists of the rehabilitation and lining of approximately 11,583 lineal feet of existing clay and concrete sewer mains.

Intersection Realignment - Lawrence & Warren Streets

This project addressed realignment of the intersection of Lawrence & Warren Streets to shorten the pedestrian crossing length across Lawrence Street.

Parks Improvement - Fire Tower

The City completed rehabilitating the iconic Fire Tower that overlooks downtown Helena.

Parks Improvement - Memorial Park Playground

The project will replace all of the playground equipment at Memorial Park.

Sidewalk Repair - 6th Ward

Sidewalks are being repaired or replaced in the 6th Ward to address tripping hazards and ADA compliance issues in preparation for a future mill & fill street project.

Trail Improvement - Benton Avenue

This project will improve accessibility for Sunhaven Subdivision residents to the Custer Avenue path.

Water & Sewer Main Extension - Westside

The City is extending water and sewer mains in the western portion of Helena.
