HELENA, Mont. – Helena City Manager Tim Burton announced today his intention to resign and retire from the position at the end of December 2025. The City Commission brought on Burton as the Interim City Manager in March 2022 and voted unanimously to hire him for the permanent position in March 2023. Burton previously served as the Helena City Manager from 2000-2009.
In a letter to the Commission, Burton lauded the work completed by the staff and Commission during his tenure including key investments in infrastructure, planning, and improving the City’s ability to recruit and retain qualified staff.
“It has been my honor to serve the people of this community,” Burton said in the letter. “I look forward to spending more time with my family and friends, and a few more weekends up at the cabin.”
In the coming weeks, the City Commission’s City Manager Relations Committee will work through the next steps to transition the city towards recruitment of a new city manager.
