HELENA, Mont. – After a robust presentation and public comment period on the City’s Helena Forward Land Use Plan, the draft document will go in front of the Planning Commission for a public hearing tonight, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. This is a public meeting, and all are welcome to attend and give comment. Any recommendations from the Planning Commission will be presented with a resolution of intention on Oct. 20, and the Helena City Commission will conduct a public hearing to consider adoption of the Helena Forward Land Use Plan and Future Land Use Map on November 17 at 6 p.m. during their regular meeting. A draft copy of the plan is available to view at www.helenamt.gov/helena-forward/.
The Helena Forward Land Use Plan will direct future growth and development in Helena over the next 20 years. The planning process kicked off in summer 2024 with a series of stakeholder meetings, public workshops, and online public engagement opportunities. Consultants with Houseal-Lavigne analyzed previous planning documents and incorporated public input to develop the draft plan, which will replace the City’s Growth Policy. The final Land Use Plan will be approved by the Planning Commission before adoption by the City Commission.
