City to Host Open Lands Major Projects Open House

HELENA, Mont. — The City of Helena will host a second open house on January 30 to discuss recommended Open Lands major projects for 2025. The open house will be held at 5:30 p.m., in room 426, at the City County Building (316 North Park Avenue, Helena, MT 59623) and via Zoom (https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81791076011).

City staff will present recommended open lands major projects, with project analysis, and environmental analysis. Public comments will also be shared from a December 18 open house and further public comment will be accepted on those proposed projects. The public has the opportunity to provide comments to the City for fifteen (15) calendar days following the January 30 open house. The deadline for public comments is 11:59 p.m. on February 14, 2025.

The major projects and project analysis are available to review at https://beheardhelena.com/helena-open-lands-major-projects-2025. Public comment can also be submitted on the Be Heard Helena project page, or by emailing parksandrec@helenamt.gov.

The recommended projects include:

  • Establish nighttime closure hours for five trailhead parking areas.
  • Improve parking at Lower Arrowroot Trailhead.
  • Reroute section of the Prickly Pear Trail.
  • Create a connector between Entertainment Trail and Ascension Loop.
  • Create two trails that parallel Lime Kiln Road.
  • Establish trail connecting the upper and lower tiers of the Mount Helena Parking area.
  • Create a connector between the Northwest Passage Trail and Ambrose Trail.
  • Reroute a portion of Meatloaf Trail.
  • Reroute short portions of 2006 Trail.
  • Create a minimum grade trail connecting Eddye West Trail to 2006 Trail.
