HELENA, Mont. – The City of Helena will host a public ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, to unveil a new ballroom floor at the Helena Civic Center.

The current floor was installed in 2005, when the city raised what was a two-step sunken floor. It featured an eight-pointed star, in keeping with the Moorish Revival architecture of the 1921 historic landmark, that mirrored designs seen mostly on the north side of the building. After serving as a beautiful backdrop to thousands of events over the past 20 years, the floor had reached the end of its useful life.

The new floor is a wax-free tile, which will save the city on maintenance costs. Laser-cut designs on a luxury vinyl tile should still provide ample shine without the additional labor and hold up well to heavy wear. The city contracted with CWG Architects for the floor design, sourced materials from Tarkett, and hired Big Sky Installations for demolition and installation.
