City Seeks Feedback on Zoning Regulations Update
Published on June 03, 2026
HELENA, Mont. – The City of Helena is encouraging residents, property owners, businesses, and community stakeholders to complete an online questionnaire as part of an update to the City’s zoning regulations. Community feedback gathered through the questionnaire will help shape recommendations and ensure the updated regulations reflect local priorities, needs, and goals.
The questionnaire is available now and will remain open through June 15 at https://city-of-helena-zoning-code-update-hlplanning.hub.arcgis.com/. Residents who were unable to attend recent public meetings are especially encouraged to participate and share their perspectives.
The zoning update process officially launched May 12–13 with meetings involving City department representatives, the Planning Commission, focus groups, and a community open house. Feedback from the questionnaire will build on input already received and help guide the next phases of the project.
What are zoning regulations?
Zoning regulations are how local governments regulate land use. Local governments receive the authority to establish and adopt zoning regulations by the state zoning enabling act to manage how land is developed and used to protect public health, safety, and welfare. The City of Helena’s current Zoning Regulations have not been comprehensively updated since 2008. Many changes have occurred in since then, making it necessary for ordinances to change as well.
Residents are encouraged to complete the questionnaire by June 15 and help shape the future of Helena’s neighborhoods, businesses, and development.
