HELENA, Mont. – The Helena City Commission announced Friday the names of seventeen qualified applicants to fill the vacancy that will come when Mayor-elect Emily Dean is sworn in to office of Mayor. The names include:
Pursuant to the Helena City Charter, the required qualifications to assume the office of City Commissioner are that a person “shall be a resident of the City of Helena and qualified electors” (Article II, section 2.01). The vacant seat is appointed by a majority vote of the remaining members of the commission and will serve from January 2026 until the next regular City election in November 2027, at which point the vacancy shall be filled through the election procedure.
The commission accepted applications from Nov. 19-Dec. 10. All applicants who applied met the minimum qualifications for consideration.
The Helena City Commission will hear a recruitment update from the Clerk of the Commission and discuss the tentative timeline for application review and interviews at their next administrative meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
