HELENA, Mont. — City residents once again have several ways to dispose of Christmas trees after the holiday. The City partners with local Scout Troop 214, which offers Christmas tree recycling as a fundraiser. This year, the Scouts will provide curbside tree pick-up on January 3, 10 and 17. A $10 donation is suggested for participation in the curbside pick-up fundraiser but is not required. Those interested in that option may sign up on the Scout Troop 214 website: https://troop214helena.square.site/. The City will offer curbside tree collection after the end of the Scout fundraiser.
Residential waste permit holders can also recycle trees in the green waste area at the Transfer Station. Trees that are recycled through the Scouts and at the Transfer Station will be used for fish habitat at Canyon Ferry. All decorations, including tinsel, must be removed from trees before disposal. Learn more about the Pines for Perch program in the December issue of the City of Helena’s Sustainability Newsletter which can be found at https://www.helenamt.gov/Sustainability.
