City Commission to Interview City Manager Semifinalists

HELENA, Mont. – The City of Helena Commission will interview semifinalist candidates on Wednesday, November 19th through Friday, November 21st as the next step in the process of hiring a City Manager. The Commission will conduct nine semifinalist interviews over the three days. Interviews will be closed to the public and facilitated by Communication & Management Services, LLC., which has led recruitment efforts for the position.

Following the semifinalist interviews, the Commission plans to narrow the applicant pool to a group of finalists. Interviews for the final candidates will be conducted publicly with participation from the full Commission. The Commission is planning opportunities for finalists to meet with City Leadership and engage in a public event hosted by Helena Citizens Council.

The City began recruitment for its Manager position in early October with the first review of applications on November 5th. The position remains open until filled. The recruitment process garnered tremendous interest, with 78 applications from candidates across the country.

Following the semifinalist interviews, the Commission representatives will select an undetermined number of candidates to participate in the in-person finalist interviews, which are tentatively scheduled for early to mid-December. The public can expect more information on the finalist interview and selection process in the coming weeks.

* A Special Meeting of the City Commission is tentatively scheduled for Monday, November 24, 2025, at 5:00 PM. This meeting will be held only if the Commission determines that additional deliberation is necessary for the selection of finalists. If required, the meeting will be publicly noticed in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
