The Fleet Maintenance is a division of the Public Works Department that provides fleet services to all City of Helena Departments. Services include preventative maintenance and repairs to the City’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, acquisition and disposal of vehicles and equipment, and fuel billing services.
Vehicles are purchased through a public bid process or through dealers listed as providers under the State bid contract which allows a purchase discount for local government. Vehicles and equipment deemed as surplus due to age or diminished function are sold through public auction or negotiated sales to various municipalities.
The Fleet Division consists of four mechanics, each specializing in various mechanical abilities, an administrative assistant and a superintendent. The City Shop is located at 3001 East Lyndale. The facility also houses the Street and Traffic Divisions and a portion of the Solid Waste Division.
