Kay's Kids: Free Youth Summer Recreation Program

The City of Helena partners with the Kay McKenna Youth Foundation to offer a FREE summer recreation program for kids between the ages of 6-13.  Children younger than 6 years old are welcome to attend when accompanied by an adult.

This summer registration is required for all participants in the program.  Parents may register their children online and we will have options for in person registration.  Check back in late May for registration details.

On days of inclement weather or otherwise high attendance there will be a maximum number we can safely accommodate inside the Warming House at the Memorial Park location. Please note we may have to turn children away once capacity has been reached. Likewise, in the event of inclement weather the Barney Park location may be subject to cancellation as shelter is limited. We thank you for your cooperation.

About the Staff

Our number one priority is the safety of your children.  All staff members are trained in CPR and First Aid, and the City conducts background checks prior to hiring.  Each staff member is carefully chosen based on prior childcare experience, love of kids, and understanding the importance of helping children succeed.  Recreation Leaders are staffed at each park.

History of Kay's Kids

Former Helena Mayor Kay McKenna loved kids.  She created a free summer youth recreation program to allow Helena's youth to have a safe and active way to enjoy the summer.

The Kay McKenna Youth Foundation's mission is to continue Mayor Kay McKenna's dream of providing a free summer recreational program for all youth by providing funding to support the Kay's Kids program.
