West Side Annexation - Phase 1

The first phase in the city's west side annexation project is officially annexed.

On Tuesday, December 12th, the area as shown on the attached map was annexed into the city limits.

Most city services will then be available for residents of the area.

Following is information for residents affected by this change:

Community Development, Building Division: Property owners remodeling or doing new construction on their property, residential or commercial, should contact the building division concerning permits for construction, plumbing, electrical, etc. Call 406-447-8438 for more information. http://www.helenamt.gov/cd/building-division.html

Public Works, Streets Division: The city streets division will add the area to its normal winter and summer operations and maintenance. The snow plan maps will be updated to include the newly annexed area. Public Works, Solid Waste: City solid waste will be available to serve residential properties in the area. Commercial properties may also be served, visit our solid waste website for information: http://www.helenamt.gov/pw/solid-waste.html

Public Works, Water & Waste Water: Property owners in the annexed area wishing to connect to city water and waste water services will need to contact the Community Development Department for details. Call 406-447-8445, or 406-447-8492, or email citycommunitydevelopment(at)helenamt.gov.

Public Safety, Fire: Operations will not change in the area; the Helena Fire Department has historically responded to emergencies in the area through the Westside fire service agreement. Residents will no longer see that item on their property tax bill as of December, 2018.

Public Safety, Police: The Helena Police Department will have jurisdiction in the annexed area. 911 dispatch operators will be notified and will adjust their calls accordingly. REMINDER: Fireworks are prohibited in city limits, City Code 5-1-35.

As a resident in the newly annexed part of the city, your tax bill will look different when property taxes are due in December, 2018. Applicable city taxes and special assessments will be added and some County assessments will be removed.
