Basic Weed Tips

Weed control is important regardless what type of weeds you are trying to control.  The best way to combat unwanted weeds is to use several different types of control during the growing season. Combining several types of control is called integrated pest management (IPM) and it is more effective.  Here are a few methods:

  • Biological (insects)
  • Hand Pulling
  • Herbicide
  • Mowing
  • Mulching
  • Regular Watering

Insects for Noxious Weeds

Images show several types of insects used to control noxious weeds.  Many individuals and agencies use insects in combination with other management methods to control noxious weeds.  When selecting types of control options, you need to consider weed species, size of infestation, location and access, and possible environmental effects.  What may be good for one location may not be for another.
